Many gods...
The Greeks believed in many gods. They had a god for many areas including love, war, sky, sea, etc. They believed that the gods could be happy with them and bless them and their works. They believed that things happened because the gods made it happen and in turn the rituals that the priests did helped control what the gods did. This system gave the priests most of the power, because nothing happened without them. They also believed that matter was made of individual particles called atoms. The word atom comes from the greek word atomos.
