He placed the elements into 7 categories based on their atomic weight, and found out they had similar properties. Although it was rejected, he was the first person to give the elements atomic numbers. As it was the first time and because he had limited knowledge, there were many flaws in Newlands table, but it opened the door for categorization of the elements for other scientists.
